Calculus is a college level course that will explore functions in a very different way. We will hit 3 key ideas throughout the course that are based on simple ideas taken to the extreme (for example, slope, area and substitution). Calculus is challenging not because the procedures are long, but rather, because you have so many options available, immense thought must go into each decision. My goal this year is to teach you through inquiry, presenting you with unique phenomena and asking you to make sense of what you see. This course requires a lot of strong ALGEBRA skills, if you do not feel comfortable with Algebra, please take time to review adding, subtracting, multiplying and factoring polynomials. Your ability to do these tasks quickly and accurately can also determine your success. Please remember to ask lots of questions (even if you think they sound stupid) and accept help from others, especially when it is least wanted.
I look forward to an exciting year with you.
You will want to visit KHAN ACADEMY FOR CALCULUS and PATRICK JMT for videos on how to do the skills in class. Calculus is a class where a lot of different ideas come into play. Mr. Germanis will support you in your understanding as best he can during class. However, Khan Academy and http://patrickjmt.com/#calculus are amazing resources.
